Now or Never, Part II: Today and Tomorrow

In Now or Never, Part I: Today or Tomorrow, we explored 2 tough choices:

  • Do you choose to live for today, or to build for tomorrow?
  • Do you choose to focus on your detailed, daily problems, or do you focus on finding the root cause of your problems?

It’s dangerous to spend all your time thinking about the future.  You get lost in a dream world, with your thoughts spinning around and around, while the imperfect present crashes and burns.

It’s just as dangerous to spend all your energy reacting to whatever happens to you today.  When I just react to today’s challenges, I’m not that much different than an animal,  unable to make any real choices about what my future should be.

In Part 1, Fear on Ice, we explored feeling trapped in a situation that we want to escape from, where we’re afraid to remain, and afraid to change.

In Part 2, Too Many Choices, we looked at having too many choices, and not being able to choose between them.

We also get trapped when we look for solutions to the challenges that face us.

Solutions are great.  The problem arises when we keep jumping from one solution to another, without taking real action with any of them.

The Wild Man: Break Free of Civilized Fear

I’d like to be a wild man.

No, I don’t want to live in rags, grunt, and carry a club.
But I do want to let go of the over-civilized me who is always trying to please someone. You know, the one who doesn’t want to be different, because it might offend someone?

I’m so sick of him.
He’s so frightened of taking off his mask, of stepping out of his routine of getting along, and getting by.
